My Mini (2010) does support audio out but this monitor doesn't have built-in speakers which makes sense on the surface. Your connection was to a monitor, that monitor might not support audio input over DisplayPort. This article from Apple's support site lists which models do and do not support it. It depends on when your Mac was made, earlier models did not support transferring audio over the mini DisplayPort connection. And another Dell connected DP-MDP to the same 24" Dell also doesn't have the audio option. Get the T-Bolt ~ HDMI and, it will work in older and newer Mac laptops.Įdit: I thought MD carried audio but I see that my 2010 Mini connected MD-MD to a 24" Dell doesn't have the option to send audio to that monitor. Note: T-Bolt & MDP are the same size and form factor. The mini-display port ~ HDMI did only video. That will send video AND audio out on one cable. I think you want the THUNDERBOLT male to HDMI female.
